The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie โ€” who received the toy collection when he grew up โ€” receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
