Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
