Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.

An important political figure said the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
